Lightning Broadband Takes A Stand Against Domestic Violence

Gigabit fibre broadband provider Lightning Broadband is among the signatories to an important tool for addressing domestic and family violence in Australia.

Established in 2015, the company is at the cutting-edge of connectivity technology and service delivery.

While maintaining a strong focus on consistently delivering superfast broadband to homes and businesses, the firm has also kept in mind other very important responsibilities and obligations - including the welfare of its staff and customers. This involves being across a range of sensitive issues; among them the scourge of domestic and family violence (DFV).

DFV is a serious issue that needs to be addressed at all levels. To this end, Lightning Broadband was among 17 telecommunication service providers to be inaugural signatories to the recently-launched Telco Industry DFV Pledge.

The pledge involves a commitment to continuously improve support of customers and employees who are either DFV victim-survivors or supporting someone who is. It also requires the creation of a DFV Action Plan using the Telco Industry DFV Action Framework to inform its development

The pledge is an initiative of the of Telco Together Foundation, which brings together telecommunications providers to discuss, address and action complex social issues of relevance to Australia's telco industry.

Commenting on the initiative and the company's commitment to tackling DFV, Lightning Broadband CEO Jeremy Rich said:

“This issue is relevant to us all, as people and organisations. For smaller or growing telcos, such as us, it’s just as important as for the ‘big four’ and can be more challenging in some cases, without extensive resources.

This Framework is a great help. It gives us a process to follow, and covers the subject from many angles. We want to support our customers and employees well and now have the means to continually improve how we do that”.

Mr. Rich is also encouraging other telcos across Australia to get on board with the DFV Pledge if they haven't already done so - further information is available here.
