Meet Stina, a photographer based in Melbourne’s inner north who worked with Lightning Broadband photographing our team. We spoke to Stina about her work and what she loves about living in Melbourne.

“My photography is all about capturing people’s essence, and how they are authentically. At the same time I want the experience to be as fun as I want the photos to look amazing. This means I photograph candidly regardless if it’s a bride and groom, co-workers, a family, a company or a dog. I want everyone to feel and look like the best versions of themselves while having a blast getting their photo taken.

I mainly capture non-traditional weddings. These are big and small celebrations which are centered all around what the couple loves - not what tradition tells them they should do. I’ve photographed everything from 250 guest weddings in stark industrial buildings, to two person elopements in epic locations.

However, over the years I have captured so much more than weddings. From photographing businesses and events, past couples with their brand new babies, headshots and a lot of dogs, you name it, chances are pretty high I have photographed it. ”

“I love photographing around
Melbourne. There’s just
something magical down every
alleyway or around any corner
and is truly a playground for
a photographer.”

WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF PHOTOGRAPHING A WEDDING?

Every weekend I get to partake in one of the happiest days of people’s lives. There is excitement, happiness and a hell of a good party. Sure, I might be the only sober one there, but that does not stop me from having a boogie on the dance floor and share lots of laughs with the couple plus all of their awesome guests!

WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT LIVING IN MELBOURNE?

Melbourne truly is one of a kind. When I moved here about 10 years ago I felt immediately at home. It’s a small town in a big city costume with lots of personality and something for everyone. But the very best thing must be the food. The food is so incredibly good and every time I leave Melbourne it’s the first thing I miss.

WHERE DID THE NAME GOLD AND GRIT ORIGINATE?

I wanted a name that represented the way I photograph weddings. I always want to capture everything, from the random, fun and mundane to the epic and beautiful. After all a wedding day isn’t just glitz, it’s also people spilling things, kids not throwing flowers where they should and very long strings of cheese when your guests eat pizza. So the gold represents the beautiful parts and grit all the rest of it.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ON THE INTERNET AT THE MOMENT?

My favourite thing online right now is the show Motel Makeover on Netflix. I have watched the whole series twice in the last week and I just find it so inspiring. Disclaimer: I love everything except their voices.

My second favourite thing needs mentioning too – the instagram account @dogxytocin delivers the best wholesome dog content. It brings me joy every single day.
